Photoshop shortcuts

These are expressed as Windows shortcuts - their Mac versions are usually guessable from there…

Screen modes

Cycle the screen mode between Standard, Full screen with menu and Full screen using the F key. The menu bar can be switched on/off independently with Shift-F.

Document select

A standard Windows key combination is Ctrl-Tab to cycle the child windows. This applies as standard in Photoshop.

Grabbing

No need to select the Hand tool: you can always get it by holding the spacebar.

Magnifier

Similar to the grabber, there’s no need to select the Zoom tool: holding space and Ctrl gives you the Magnifier. Adding Alt zooms out.

Zooming

The most obvious keyboard shortcuts (with the possible exception of Ctrl-C and friends) are most likely Ctrl-+ and Ctrl– for zooming in and out. Do it with Alt Gr instead of Ctrl and the window is resized as well.

Other zooming quickies are: Ctrl-0 for fit-to-window and Ctrl-Alt-0 for 100% (AKA Actual Pixels)

Moving around

Page Up moves the document, er, up by, well, a page. Page Down is as you expect. It gets more useful when you add Shift which reduces the movement to jumps of 10 pixels. That’s up and down, how about left and right? Add Ctrl to the above - Page Up is left; Page Down is right.

The Home and End keys take you to the top left and the bottom right of the document, respectively.

Layer travel

It’s also possible to move up and down the layer stack with keys: Alt-[ and Alt-] take you down and up, respectively. Adding Shift adds layers to your selection. To move the layer up and down the stack, swap the Alt for Ctrl. To jump to the top and bottom of the layers, use Alt-. and Alt-, respectively. Again, Shift can be added to select multiple layers.
